Full Moon in Aries: The Fire Inside
By Stefanie Weiss
On October 8th, 2014, we will experience the Full Moon in Aries, which is also a total lunar eclipse, part of a “tetrad” (four total eclipses in a row). This extraordinary event has been called the “Blood Moon” – but don’t worry – any rumors you’ve heard about the end of the world are just hyperbole. With all the events in the news, from ISIS to Ebola, it’s easy to get caught up in the drumbeat of fear.
It’s true, however, that sometimes change feels like the end, like a kind of death. And eclipses are specialists in bringing about complete and utter transformation. Even if you go kicking and screaming (and in primal Aries, you probably will) through your changes, they will happen. The trick with this fiery, me-first Full Moon is to find some kind of balance. Libra is Aries’ opposite sign (its shadow) so we must aim to find some harmony in the extremes. Aries wants everything and wants it NOW, so if you feel yourself becoming increasingly demanding over the next few days, this Full Moon is working hard on you.
At this moment we’re catalyzing the experiences we had approximately six months ago, when the Full Moon in Libra (also a lunar eclipse) descended in the midst of the Grand Cardinal Cross – one of the biggest astrological events of the decade. Whatever changes you began to make then (or changes you resisted) are coming full circle now. New relationships that started to form, old relationships that began to fade, new or old jobs, homes, ideas – all of these are becoming what they’re meant to be. And in some cases, that means that they must go. Trust that if someone or something leaves your life now, it’s for your highest purpose and deepest evolution.
That doesn’t mean you have to take it with a stiff upper lip – experience the full range of your emotions. Aries energy insists that you get physical, so if you feel like dancing, running, jumping or doing a kickboxing class – aim to MOVE. Just don’t use that fierce, fiery energy to punch the object of your ire – make it metaphorical.
This is one of those Full Moons that dares you to go outside and look at it. It will be bright from the 7th through the 9th – don’t be afraid to stare. You will definitely contact the fire inside of you via this eclipse – and if you don’t, you might not feel fully alive. Sitting around on the sofa watching TV and eating popcorn is not going to cut it.
Don’t forget: Mercury just went retrograde on October 4th – so nothing is quite what it seems. All messages and communication have a hint of something that will only be revealed later. This is yet another warning not to fly off the handle in the days before and after this eclipse. Even if something seems to require an immediately fired-off response – do everything you can to wait just a few days so you can offer a calmer, more rational reply.
If anger wells up inside of you – old anger from the ancient past, or anger about a situation that came to light during the last six months, know that you may not conventionally “work it out” right now, but you can get the kind of inner resolution you require. Even if the person you’re fighting with doesn’t quite get it, at last you can allow the wisdom of this profound eclipse to penetrate to your core.
The motto of Aries is “I AM” – so allow yourself to be exactly who you are. And if you don’t quite know who you are because your identity is shifting, this Full Moon will help you find out.
